They look like blue-black storm clouds, glistening,

Cooled with the waters of clear-flowing streams,

And covered with ladybird beetles:

These rocky crags delight me!

(Verses of The Senior Monks, tr. Bhikkhu Sujato & Jessica Walton)

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

My hut is roofed, comfortable,

free of drafts;

my mind, well-centered,

released.

I remain ardent.

So, rain-deva.

Go ahead & rain.

(Thag 1:1  Subhūti)

Even with all the whistles & whistling,

the calls of the birds,

this, my mind, doesn’t waver,

for my delight is in

oneness.

(Thag 1:49  Rāmaṇeyyaka)

With clear waters &

massive boulders,

frequented by monkeys &

deer,

covered with moss &

water weeds:

Those rocky crags refresh me.

(Thag 1:113  Vanavaccha)

When the Cool Forest’s in full flower,

in a cool mountain gorge,

having bathed my limbs

I’ll walk back & forth

alone.

While soft breezes blow—

cool,

heavily, fragrantly scented—

I’ll make ignorance burst,

as I sit on a mountaintop.

In the forest covered with blossoms

or perhaps on a cool hillside,

blessed with the bliss of release,

on Giribbaja I’ll delight.

(Thag 10:2  Ekavihāriya)
